WOW! – we got Mal Cayley to come and speak!! Amazing depth of property Knowledge

I can’t tell you how impressed I am with Mal Cayley. He has an incredible understanding of the property market, and is extremely well connected. AND he adores his wife Franii who is also a powerhouse as she heads up Sunshine Coast Council Property Asset Portfolio worth $$$$$$$$ – as well as the mother to their 6 children.
There were soooo many topics we could have chosen using Mal’s expertise, however we had to focus on one. So here it is.
Topic – First 2 rules of Business – and how they apply to Property Development.
I won’t give away what the rules are because they are quite humorous, however Mal spends an enormous amount of his time on the front line (he is ex military) of property research, right across the SSC and believes that there is a HUGE difference between what we are being told from reports using historical data, compared to what he finds in his research to predict the future.
Mal draws on his Military Modelling, where life & death outcomes are determined – and applies it to his 3 property businesses with precision and depth. It is fascinating to watch.

Mal has been a Director of the Reign Group of companies for over a decade. Working with his business partner to grow a diversified property centric group through innovation, Mal’s focus has been on the governance of the group while driving the day to day operations of the sales and finance business and its integration with the property management and management rights teams. A core component of this role is his interaction and support to developers in addressing their three key risk areas while maintaining a focus on the ‘win’ for all stakeholders.
Prior to this he worked in the finance, property development and real estate industries forging a reputation for his operational and marketing capacity, depth of research and analysis, creativity and integrity of delivery. His unique insight in the residential property space has seen him as a speaker across Australia and multiple countries around the world.
Prior to the property sector Mal learned his trademark skill sets of risk assessment, information management and analysis, operational entrepreneurialism and leadership during more than 17 years as a member of the Australian Army where he worked his way from an infantry soldier to an Intelligence Corps Captain and then as a consultant to very large public and private companies. While a member of the Defence Force, he had the privilege of leading troops on operations both here and abroad and has received a number of awards and commendations being recognised for his exemplary service. After being approached by a multinational company to raise a new business unit for them, Mal left the Regular Army to become a consultant to business on specialist security matters. Looking for greater challenges and with a passion for property, Mal set a course that has seen him apply his experience to the property industry and to the pioneering of business methodologies and products with his business partner, continuously setting their offering apart in the minefield that is the property sector and, most recently, as a founding Director of Property Vine Ltd; a Public Unlisted Company focused on management and letting rights, serviced apartments and property management that is intended to be listed on the ASX.
Mal has been the Director of over 30 companies, including a not for profit youth support organisation, and is currently an owner, shareholder and Director of Investor Property, Direct Hotels and Apartments, Direct Rentals and Property Vine Limited, among others.
His greatest claim to fame is as an adoring husband and father of six pretty awesome kids.
